Yes. Carbonic acid is just carbon dioxide dissolved in water. It's responsible for the mineralization of the great caves (stalagtites etc.) and it's responsible for the mineral that gets on your glasses when they come out of the diswasher. BTW, iron is just another mineral, and acts much the same as calcium when it comes in contact with carbonic acid.

this is because the carbonic acid creates the philiosiphic acid in the drink or substence that gives off bubbles to rust the iron. like most soft drinks for example take coca cola it is acidic and makes nails rust but not a lot because the carbonic acid and pH in it is lower and less disolvable.

take my word but if you don't visit a chemist or your science and biology teacher they will give you more informatoin.

What mainly makes metal rust?

acid rain is what most commonly makes metal rust

What else can destroy metal except rust?

In addition to rust, most metals can be destroyed by acid. Any metal can be destroyed by a sufficiently high temperature, which will melt or even vaporize the metal. Many metals will burn, and some dissolve in water (which is a separate process from rusting, although rust is also catalysed by water).

How does acid affects metal?

it makes it rust and corrode

What makes Coca-Cola rust nails?

The concentration of carbonic acid. Its what makes your mouth tingle. Also, it will eventually dissolve the nail.

Do soft drinks remove rust?

Apparently it does. The citric acid in the soft drinks burn up the rust and eliminates it and instead of sticking to the metal it sticks to the acid or the citric acid.

Why iron being rust?

Iron rusts as a result of corrosion, when iron, water, and oxygen combine. Water combines with carbon dioxide in the air, forming a weak carbonic acid. As the acid forms, the iron dissolves, and rust begins to form.

Why sodas clean pennys?

Soda or carbonated drink had CO2 dissolved in water and form carbonic acid. The rust is dissolve in the acid solution thus leave coin a shiny surface.

What acid is used to remove rust?

Acid does not remove rust, however the use of phosphoric acid on rust converts the iron oxide to iron phosphate, which in turn can be painted without the fear of rust forming. The iron phosphate surface will not deteriorate the metal like iron oxide does.

Will lemonade cause paper clips to rust?

Yes. Lemon has acid content and when metal gets into contact with it, rust will be formed.

What causes OJ to rust a nail?

Rust occurs when a metal oxidizes. The ingredients needed to make a metal rust is oxygen and breaking compounds such as the citric acid in orange juice or salty water in oceans.
