The original intent is to consecrate the wine from one cup (chalice). However, with many people receiving the wine now, two or more cups are used to consecrate. Everyone drinks from these cups, and it is not poured into individual cups, due to risk of spilling and the impracticality of serving hundreds.

Catholics may receive communion in either individual cups or from a common cup, depending on the practices and preferences of the specific Catholic church. The Catholic Church allows for variations in the manner of distributing communion to accommodate different cultural and logistical situations.

What two Christian rites are important for Catholics?

The Catholics have Seven Sacraments that (Because Catholics are Christians) and they are all important. You are confusing Christian for protestant. Protestants only have two sacraments (if they call them sacraments) that would be Baptism and the Lord's Supper. Catholics view any Baptism that is administered with water in the name of the Trinity as valid, so Baptism for protestants is a valid sacrament. Holy Communion, however, is not, because they have no priesthood. But, since protestants deny that Holy Communion actually is the Body of Christ (as Our Blessed Lord Himself said repeatedly in the second half of the sixth chapter of St. John's Gospel), the only thing that it has in common with the Eucharist is the name and the outward form.

Can a Catholic and a non Catholic marry in the Catholic Church with a Mass ceremony?

No, when a non Catholic gets married to a Roman Catholic in a catholic church the sacrament of matrimony is not incurred in a mass.So basically the ceremony will be there but the ceremony wont be celebrated in a Holy Mass.ANSWER: Well, that's not really true. The couple may have a Mass but the non-catholic spouse may not receive Holy Communion. I believe it's difficult to have a Mass IF your spouse (and most likely his family) are not Catholics. Then you'll have one side of the isle going to communion while the other side remains seated. On the other hand, the Catholic should want the Mass celebrated when she marries and to receive the Holy Eucharist. Difficult. It might be possible for the Catholic bride or groom to receive the Eucharist (one that has already been consecrated at a prior Mass) kind of like seniors (shut-ins) receive when lay Eucharist Ministers visit their homes so that they may receive the Eucharist even though they did not attend Mass physically.

Do Roman Catholics use The Book of Common Prayer?

Technically, they do not. The Book of Common Prayer has been traditionally used by members of the Anglican Communion, or the churches who are officially associated with the Archbishop of Canterbury in England. Since many Anglican dioceses have recently left communion with Canterbury, affiliated with the Roman Pontiff, and joined the Catholic Church, the Anglican liturgy has been adapted for use in the new Catholic dioceses. The traditional form of prayer for Catholics is the Roman office, which is comprised of several books for each liturgical season. Another form of this office is available, and it is considerably shorter and takes up only one volume.
