Vegetarians, those that eat many vegetables and not too much protein have a urine pH closer to alkaline or basic to where the kidneys are not having to work hard at all.

The blood has to be 7.4 always. However, to have a urine pH that is higher than 7.4 is ok. One definitely would not want it to be lower. The more basic-- the better for your kidneys. For your body to break down excess protein, means your kidneys are having to process it's nitrogenous bi-products. & in order for the kidneys to help regulate pH to keep the blood at 7.4 they have to compensate much more.

Of course. Whatever you eat is excreted by your urinary and digestive systems eventually. For example, eating strong-smellling foods will change the odor of your urine - try eating broccoli or garlic!
