How was treason punished is Shakespeare's day?

Treason is one of the most serious offences that a person can commit, right along with espionage. Even today, many countries execute people that engage in these activities, so it's a pretty safe bet to say that people were certainly executed in medieval times for treason. You could probably add torture along with drawing and quartering to that punishment as well.
