Hermit crabs are rather crafty little climbers. In the wild they spend part of their time in trees. They have pointy little leg tips that can easily poke into the silicone on the corner of a fish tank and can climb all the way to the top and out. This is why it is a good idea to have a metal mesh top with a glass cover to help hold in humidity, and to help hold in your crabs!
Don't assume they can't climb out. Mine regularly climb up the air hose that goes to their bubbler pond, and also the cord that leads to the thermostat sensor that controls the UTH temperature.
hermit crabs should never be kept in a wire cage, as they are sensitive to metals and unless you live in a humid, tropical climate, their gills will dry out and they will slowly suffocate. they need 70-80% humidity.

not really. the bigger the better.
There like you and me, (well, most likely) they don't like to be so cooped up. Take out of the cage and play with everyday, or at least every other day, that way, it will not be tempted to escape.
3-6 months
They are just having fun.
No, hermit crab mites are specific to hermit crabs and will not harm you or your pets.
hermit crabs need a beach to lay their eggs on so they wont have babies in their cage.
Hermit crabs pull themselves up into their hard shell. Other crabs must just get away as fast as they can.
basically, whenever needed. check daily for anything wrong in its cage. change food daily.
No, for the substrate you can have coconut fiber. I have half of that and sand.
at Petland it costs at least 40 dollars
no we had over ten hermit crabs in one cage and they were all fine.:) since they are both different sizes you should keep an eye on them but you shouldn't worry because hermit crabs are very social animals.
