This would depend on the type and amount of minerals the horse ingests. If the horse is eating dirt, you need to provide a mineral supplement designed for horses as his needs are not being met by his normal feed ration alone. You should have a equine vet come out and check the horse to make sure he's completely healthy except for the lack in minerals.
