If my dog has fleas they bite me, but do not stay on me. However, they do tend to gather in the carpet and in his bedding if left untreated.

Yes you can get bit by dog, cat, deer flees. If you are unsure of what a flee bite is, look for little red dots no bigger than a pin head (May be bigger if you are allergic to them)

If you are getting bit by flees your home has already been infested by them.

Here is a related link that could help you with your flee problem.

They will get on humans but don't like the way we taste and our hair is not as dense as they like so you won't catch them although they could bite you

Human fleas (pulex irritans) prefer to feed on humans and pigs, but are much more commonly associated with living on wildlife. Dog fleas (ctenocephalides canis) are much more suited to living in fur.
