Is rubber swimming pool paint better then the epoxy refinish?

It is all in the preparation. Why do you want to paint a pool?????Reply to above: WHY PAINT A POOL? Because it's cheaper than re-plastering or otherwise re-surfacing your pool. Because it protects the concrete and/or plaster or fiberglass surface under the paint--if it is a quality paint. Because it revives the original beauty of your pool. Because it helps the surface resist algae and chemical attack on your pool surface-- especially so for a high-gloss premium pool paint. Because painting your pool allows you to modernize it, change color, add personal emblems or decals on the bottom. Lots of reasons to paint your pool. Check out frequently asked pool painting questions at http://www.sausea.com/faq.htm BY THE WAY, GOLDEN POOL PAINT RULE: Rubber-base over rubber-base, epoxy over epoxy, vinyl over vinyl. For best results, do NOT put different types over each other! If your paint type is failing, sandblast and start over with a good quality pool paint.

What cause black streaks on the surface of a new pool?

I think what you are refering to is called mottling. It can be caused by over working the marcite as it is applied. It can also be caused by improperly mixing the finishing product.

How do you resurface a concrete pool with marsite?

Marcite is a thing of the past, at least here in Florida. It used to be a good product, but after the removal of asbestos, it does not last as long as before. The quaztz aggregate finish replaced marcite. Instead of use of marble, like in marcite, it uses quartz. Diamond Brite is one of many brands available. Then you have hydrazzo which is a kind of marcite with a twist; it is polished after finished to a glassy feeling. Pebble finish is also available; it is a little bit rougher than quartz aggregate finish. The latest thing for pool finish is the use of glass beads(beadcrete). Can you paint over epoxy paint that did not cure properly with additional epoxy paint?

I wouldn't. I would try to get the first one to cure somehow, possibly by warming that area.

What is marcite?

Marcite was the material used to finish the interior of a concrete swimming pool. It is in simple terms a mixture of crushed marble and white cement mixed with water to form plaster which is then applied to the pool floor and walls with trowels to provide a smooth finish for the interior of the pool . These days we use what are known as exposed aggrigate materials to finish pools which contain man made quartz such as Diamond brite. What is marsite?

Marcite is a "plaster" made from marble dust and white cement. It's put on top of the gunite and gives the pool a smooth finish and bright luster.

What paint do you use to repaint a marblite pool?

Why in the world would you want to paint a marbelite or plaster pool?

How do you determine what kind of paint is on your swimming pool?

First you have to determine if is in fact a painted pool. If it is a plaster pool then usually there is no paint unless it was painted because of age and damaged plaster. You most likely do not want to paint a plaster pool - have it acid washed to clean plaster. Not sure how to determine what type paint. You would have to have the paint chips anaylized to determine if it is a chlorinated base paint or epoxy paint. Ken
