Most of the territories had previously been under "de facto" British rule for many decades. *Egypt's government was still advised by the British until 1952 *The Cape (1791-1910), Natal (1843-1910), Transvaal (1877-1910) and Orange River (1902-1910) colonies were brought together to form the Dominion of South Africa in 1910. In 1931 South Africa became totally independent. *British control of Southern Rhodesia was interrupted due to the Rhodesian Civil War in 1965. When the war ended in 1979, the British regained control of Southern Rhodesia and granted it independence just months later in 1980.

Somalia did not fight for their independance at all- before Somalia became a country it was two different protectorates- A British protectorate called British Somaliland (established in 1884-87), and an Italin Protectorate called Italian Somaliland ( established in 1889-90). Italy promised after World War II that in 10 years they would make Italin somaliland an independent republic. Somalia became a fully independent republic in 1960. When Italin Somaliland was gaining independance it merged with British somaliland making them both independent republics under the new name of Somalia.
