He could have gotten it from a small animal that he found or if he was outside even once he could have gotten them. sometimes they can get it if they got into a garbage can. i suggest you go to a vet to see if he has parasites.
I think that indoor cats can get worms if a outdoor cat is brought into the lifestyle of the other cat.......... or i think if you give a cat milk too often it can possibly get worms
Any contact with outside cats would do it. Also, if your cat used to be an outside cat but is inside now, he could have already had worms when you took him in.
