Yes, but you need to make sure you do not shock the fish when you change the water temperature. To do this properly; you need to put the fish in a plastic bag with water from the aquarium it is in, put the bag with the fish in it on the water of the pond, the fish and bag will float on top. Leave this there for about an hour before opening the bag and pouring the fish gently into the pond. Make sure there is plenty of water in the bag that the fish can swim in if the bag floats sideways to prevent any injury to the fish.

Yes they can breed in an outdoor pond provided the temperature gets up to around 68F to 70F which is the trigger for them to spawn. Ponds are the best places for goldfish. They were not really bred/developed by the Chinese to be kept in fish tanks.

yes, it will grow bigger than inside a small tank. But make some disadvantages are that some predators may eat them such a s birds or cats. And be sure the water is warm enough and they don't freeze to death (depends on where you live)

Yes, but there are some precautions to take. This move should only be attempted in the spring so the Goldfish has enough time over the summer and autumn to build weight to last through the winter. The pond should also be well established, ponds will go through the nitrogen cycle the same as a tank. A happy Goldfish pond should be large, ideally some kind of filtration, at least 500 US gallons and a portion should be at least 3-4ft deep at its deepest - shallower than that and it's less likely to last through the winter and is more likely to be picked off by passing predators.

Yes, they can. If you are in an area that freezes in winter just make sure you go out every day and break up the ice because if it freezes all the way you'll have "fishicles". Also give your fish plenty of places to hide in your pond. Rocks, water lilies and make sure you have a filter on the pond.

Some goldfish may be safely moved to your outdoor pond. It is best to check and see if the kind of goldfish you have are suited for outdoor living.

What are fantails?

The fantail goldfish is a good choice for beginners since they are very hardy and due to the fact that Fantail goldfish can be kept in temperatures close to the freezing point. Fantail goldfish are also an ideal choice if you want to keep some type of fancy goldfish in garden ponds due to the earlier mentioned reasons. Fantail Goldfish are recognized by their medium sized double/split tail fins. You can judge the breeding quality of a Fantail goldfish by looking at how far their fins are split. The tailfin of a high quality Fantail goldfish is almost completely split down to the root. You can find Fantail goldfish in a number of different coloration and with metallic, matt scale or nacreous types. Fantail goldfish doesn't grow as large as many other gold fish types and seldom reach a size of more then 16 cm / 6 inches which is small in comparison with other goldfish types such as comets goldfish that can reach over twice that length. They are best kept in cold water and a fantail goldfish aquarium tank or garden pond should be decorated with open areas for the fish to swim on as well as heavily planted areas. The bottom should be covered with a large grained substrate if you want to give any eggs that might be laid a small chance to survive with their parents. (Which is better then no chance) The fact that Fantail goldfish wants to be kept in cold water narrows down the number of (in the aquarium trade commonly available) plants that are suitable to be used in an aquarium with Fantail Goldfish. Pond plants and aquatic plants found in garden centres are often better choices. There is however a number of commonly available plants that are suitable to be kept in an aquarium tank with Fantail goldfish such as Crinum, Elodea (Egeria) and Anubias species. Java moss is another suitable plant to be used that also help give fry a chance to survive in your garden pond without extra help. Fantail goldfish should never be kept alone and always in groups. Fantail Goldfish accept most food sources and can without problem be kept on a diet of flake food and pellets as long as you make sure that the food you use contains vegetables. It is important to adjust the amount of food given to the temperature in the aquarium/pond at any given time. Fantail Goldfish is one of the easiest of the fancy goldfishes to breed. Make sure that you keep your fish well feed on a varied diet to get them in spawning condition. You will also need to lower the temperature in the pond or aquarium for a period of time to simulate seasons to get them to breed. Once the fishes have been kept in colder water for about a month or so you should slowly begin to raise the temperature and this process will trigger well feed, mature Fantail goldfish to spawn. You will have to protect the egg and fry from the parents or the parents will eat them if they get the chance. Some fry might survive and grow up in a well planted pond or aquarium. Large balls of java moss increase the chances for the young Fantail goldfish to avoid being eaten by other larger goldfish. Fantail goldfish can in other aspects be treated as the regular goldfish and we recommend that you read our articles about how to care for regular goldfish if this short article didn't answer your questions about Fantail goldfish and how to care for them.

How do you know if fantail goldfish is going to have babies?

You should see that the female goldfish appears fatter than usual due to the eggs she is carrying. The male will have white spots on his front fins and gill covers and will pay the female a lot of attention chasing her around the tank or pond.

What are the top ten goldfish?

Out of all the different varieties of goldfish the top pond goldfish would be the koi, the top goldfish probably of all time would be the common goldfish, and the top fancy goldfish would be the Oranda. The second most common pond goldfish would probably be the Comet, the second for the common varieties of goldfish would be the Fantail, and the second most popular fancy goldfish would be the ryukin. The third most common pond goldfish would be the Shubunkin, the third for the common goldfish varieties would be the black moor(although this technically counts as "fancy"), and the third for the fancy goldfish would probably be the Celestial and the Ranchu. To make this data more clear I've organized it into a list:1. Common goldfish2. Koi3. Oranda4. Fantail5. Comet6. Ryukin7. Black Moor8. Shubunkin9. Celestial10. Ranchu

When is the comet goldfish breeding season?

Goldfish do not have a breeding season. They can breed whenever the water is warm enough. In an open pond, this would be in the Spring and Summer months. In an indoor aquarium this can be year-round. Thank you very much for your answer!!
