COMPETITIVE BLOCKADE - THE MECHANISM BEHIND MODERN MEDITATION
The meditation we practice in the modern era is based on the mechanism called competitive blockade.
If two thoughts try to enter our conscious mind at precisely the same time, neither of them, nor any other thought, succeeds in entering it. This results in abolition of all thoughts, emotions, feelings and actions. This gives as peace and self-control, though both are false.
The thought we use for blocking in meditation is called a mantra.
when properly done this mechanism not only gives peace but also enables us to divert the power of a socially unacceptable activity into a socially acceptable activity.
ADVERSE EFFECTS OF MODERN MEDITATION
Sooner or later, competitive blockade becomes the panacea for all problems of life. If the problems are infrequent this mechanism is the simplest solution.
The problem starts when repeated failures in life depletes our manual / voluntary force.
The mantra becomes ineffective and gets replaced by any thought that can blank our mind, even extremely bizarre ones.
Making the entire mechanism automatic causes the following problems.
1. The undesirable thought is not blocked
2. The blockade becomes eternal, making us withdrawn and depressed
3. Desirable thought becomes extremely powerful making us maniacal
3. To avoid the blockade from becoming fully automatic, we may have to change the blocking thought repeatedly. However, since this consumes too much manual / voluntary force, we may have to make the blocking thought change automatically. This makes it impossible to recognize a new thought as our blocking thought that we have made to undergo automatic transformation.
The end result is unwanted and meaningless thoughts entering our conscious mind frequently and automatically.
Thus, Modern meditation can cause all the symptoms of Schizophrenia and those of all other psychotic disorders.

The future looks better than ever...Every year more and more medical type studies are showing that meditation and biofeedback and Yoga can help people help themselves

If you are creating a meditation house, the most important thing is that you have a deep, deep meditation yourself. This arises after years of practice. My experience has been that over the years, I have meditated in a number of very beautiful places. If I ever get to the point where I am ready to open a centre, I will know from my experience what is needed.
