Who created meditation?

User Avatar
Going as far back as 5000 years ago it is said that the Indian artifacts created meditation calling it "Tantra". As many know Buddha is known to be one of the most famous icons for meditation since 500 B.C. Buddha's teaching become popular in the Asian continent Soon this practice started affecting the east, but didn't affect the west civilization until the mid-20th century. CREATION OF MEDITATION The word 'Meditation' is derived from the Latin verb 'Meditari', meaning 'to think'. However, meditation is something more than thinking. This is because human beings can use different kinds of thinking and not just one kind of thinking as popularly believed. THE SPECTRUM OF HUMAN THINKING Human thinking is three dimensional. The three dimensions are, 1. Vertical / Imagination to reality - seven stages 2. Horizontal / Left to Right / Separation and merger of activities - four stages 3. Horizontal / Back to Front / Time / Transient to eternal - four stages The permutations and combinations of these make thinking literally infinite. MEDITATION Meditation is the process of selecting the best kind of thinking for a given job. The ultimate aim of meditation is to make the process of selection of thinking automatic, a state Hindus call 'Merger with the supreme Hindu god Brahman'. This would make thinking instinctive and perfect. CREATOR OF MEDITATION The various kinds of thinking a human being can use are eternal and no human being created it. Even the selection of a kind of thinking too is eternal. However, it were the Hindu sages of the Vedic period i.e. 1700 BCE to 1100 BCE, who studied the three dimensional mechanism of human thinking, called Brahman, in immaculate detail and how to move the cursor called 'Aham / I' in the three planes and thus be able to select any of all the kinds of thinking that are at the disposal of a human being. Thus, it were the Hindu sages of the Vedic period who evolved Vedic meditation. All other kinds of meditation are simple imitations of this technique of meditation.

Is a leotard best for yoga?

User Avatar
It depends on what you are comfortable wearing, assuming there is no dress code for your class. Ask the instructor what they think. I guess there is nobody else wearing a leotard or you wouldn't need to ask. I have just started yoga and I wear a pair of tight leggings, which I find very comfortable, and a close fitting tee-shirt. I'm thinking about wearing a leotard with the leggings but I hadn't worked up the courage to do so yet. Several other guys wear lycra compression shorts and so do some of the women. Other women wear capri or full length leggings or yoga pants. None wear a leotard but there are quite few skimpy tee-tops and camisoles so a short sleeve Leo wouldn't be too revealing. If you feel comfortable wearing a leotard and the instructor is okay with it go for it. It has got to be the most comfortable thing to wear. Let us hear what happens. C So here is an update. a couple of months ago I asked my yoga instructor if she thought a leotard and lycra shorts would been okay for yoga. She said yes and I have been wearing just that ever since. I feels great and nobody has made any comment about it. C

How and why yoga is important for us?

User Avatar
Yoga has been honed for more than 5,000 years, and right now, shut 11 million Americans are appreciating its health profits. Yoga can scarcely be known as a pattern. Generally Westernized yoga classes concentrate on studying physical postures, which are called asanas. They likewise more often than not might be some manifestation of breathing procedure and potentially a reflection system also. Some yoga classes are outlined only for unwinding. In any case there are styles of yoga that show you how to move your physique in new ways. Picking one of these styles offers the most terrific health benefits by enabling you to develop your flexibility, strength, and balance.

How soon can you do yoga after skin biopsy?

User Avatar
Depends where the biopsy was taken from. As long at it was from an area where it's easy to avoid knocking or injuring it in any way, you should be able to do low impact yoga within a few days (but not the type of yoga performed in very hot rooms). If there is any risk that you may accidentally knock, pull or injure the biopsy sight when it's healing, you should avoid exercise. And avoid any yoga position that involve leaning or balancing on the biopsy site. Do whatever you like when the site is fully healed (around a couple of weeks).

What is the relationship among meditation spirituality and religion?

User Avatar
Answer: Religion Relationship with a God or Gods Beliefs Metaphysical or Supernatural Reality Faith Dogma Ritual Prayer Salvation Eternal reward Spirituality Qualities of the Human Spirit Love Compassion Patience Tolerance Forgiveness Sense of Responsibility Sense of Harmony Things that bring real happiness to ourselves and others Contentment Joy Answer: Meditation is a state of mind, spirituality is a state of being, religion is a form of worship control. It's not simply a question of side-by-side definitions. They are vaguely related, but different facets of "worship". Spirituality is a general connection to, or relationship with, the the non-human forces of the world. The foce might be called God. Nature. Chi. Or dozens of other things. There are thousands of approaches to exploring it, some more structured and some less. Some are more independent and unique, and some are more established and reflective of cultural development. All have one in common -- de-emphasis of the corporeal, physical and the mundane. Meditation is simply a single, specific technique, which involves "actively" relaxing and clearing away the external thoughts and feelings that keep you from understanding who you are at the core. Meditation can also be the contemplation of an object, a person, or any other subject. It's basically the focussed, "intense" concentration that allows for clarity. Sometimes, it's devoid of a particular subject and serves simply to cleanse the mind. As such, it's not necessarily connected to religion per se, but can be generally considered a form of spirituality. Religion is the most structured, culturally dependent framework, where the "rules" and goals are externally dictated and contains some notion of morals, ethics, and reward/punishment. Ideally, religion includes both spirituality and some element of meditation. But neither is necessarily at its core. Other approaches to this answer: Meditation is the external manifestation of the divine self in you. Where religion ends spirituality begins.so if we meditate properly and leave all the ritualistic practice we can manifest the real being from inside. A very spiritual close friend of mine once told me the following : " Prayer is asking questions and meditation is listening to the answers" In my opinion spirituality is your own personal quest for truth and search for meaning in life. Religion opts to dictate and induce what you should perceive as truth and meaning in life. This is one reason you find some spiritually inclined persons in faith and what is termed as rusty locks as well. When a person has found his/her own truth and purpose in life you can feel the radiant energy, feel the state of peace, and see and hear it in their thinking. Affirmations, a specific type of meditation THE HELP LINE USA, INC Offers the following: MEDITATION FOR TODAY: THE USE OF AFFIRMATIONS: When you consistently envelop yourself in a spiritual atmosphere, you align your inner being with right action. Fulfillment, joy, peace, and abundance are available to you when you consciously embrace these ideas, constructively directing your thoughts. Devote at least 10 minutes, when you are alone and in a quiet place, to each day's affirmation. Read the paragraph for content, simply being aware of the idea it expresses. Study it more deeply, allowing your thinking to be challenged, stimulated, and enhanced. Close your eyes, meditate deeply on its meaning, and let it become a part of you. The Affirmation: "Be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. Talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person you meet. Make all your friends feel there is something special in them. Look at the sunny side of everything. Think only of the best, work only for the best, and expect only the best. Be as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own. Forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. Give everyone a smile. Spend so much time improving yourself that you have no time left to criticize others. Be too big for worry and too noble for anger." ~ Christian D. Larsen ~

What do you mean by yoga?

User Avatar
Yoga is a series of postures or asanas as they're known which you do to increase your flexibility and inner core strength. But the asanas are not a random series of movements. Each yoga position is designed to increase and block the blood supply to your body organs. This means your organs get a surge of fresh blood and helps to eliminate toxins from your body.

Where did yoga originate?

User Avatar
India: As in all cultures, it takes an event or personality behind a philosophy- the release of a book, a political event or some art form to push something to the forefront. Sage Patanjali was this for yoga as a system with the release of the Patajali Yoga Sutras. In context, it is a part of six systems of philosophy in India: * Yoga - the process of union of individual consciousness with universal consciousness * Vedanta - knowledge of Self, universe and God. * Sankhya - philosophical and largely dualistic classification of the universe * Vaishesika - analysis and characterising of the universe * Nyaya - logic. Essentially the 'Aristotelian logic of India', it is the fundamental logical basis upon which Indian philosophy has been built * Purva-Mimamsa - laws of formal religion, sacrifices, etc. The emphasis here is on correct action rather than correct belief. India is the simple answer geographically, but it was more formalized and systematized after the publishing of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras that describe the 8 limbs or rungs of progress or; asht(8)-anga(limbs) yoga that caused the general absorption of Sankkhya philosophy into Yoga and Vedanta. This is a more accurate way of saying it, rather than saying that, for example, rock n roll music originated in America. Rock music was popularized by Elvis Presley, even though his way was cleared by Rock Around the Clock by Bill Haley and completed by the Beatles, Rolling Stones and others subsequently. In the same way, the strongly dualistic manner of presentation of philosophy present in Sankhya philosophy is subsumed into the larger and more encompassing Vedantic context it exists in now. Vaishesika and Nyaya have very large consistencies between them, although Currently, the general presentation of yoga in the world's consciousness can be described as fitting in well with a world view known as Smartism. With the rise of Adi Shankara and Patanjali's Yoga Sutras these six views have largely been integrated into either yoga or Vedanta or both. Major forces in the rise of these yoga philosophies has been Swami Sivananda and his many influential disciples (particularly in the West), Sri Ramakrishna and his disciple Swami Vivekananda (Vedanta), and the various other more body-focused schools like the Bihar School of Yoga, The Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres, Integral Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga via Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and his guru Krishnamacharya, BKS Iyengar, etc.
