An interest group, or a special interest group, by definition has some special interest, which means that they exist for a specific purpose. For example, Mothers Against Drunk Driving exists to reduce the rate of traffic accidents which result from drunk driving. It is a very well defined and clearly stated goal. In general, interest groups announce their goals quite clearly. There is seldom any doubt as to what their primary goals are.The main purpose is to see their interests protected or implemented by the federal governmentInterest groups have one primary goal. That is, they want politicians to vote in the way that most benefits their particular cause. The fundamental goal of an interest group is to influence the political decision making in the political process.

Marxism, Communism Lenin was not a true Marxist in at least one sense. Marx believed the industrialized nations would experience an economic revolution of proletariat overthrowing the bourgeoisie, then instituting a political system he called a dictatorship of the proletariat in order to ensure that all vestiges of capitalism were wiped out. Lenin believed that the political system had to be overthrown first, then impose the new economic system on society. With Marx, the revolution would be economic, workers against the owners of the factories. With Lenin, the revolution would be political with the powerless people against the ruling class. After Marx's revolution, the workers would set up the appropriate form of government. After Lenin's revolution, new government would set up the appropriate economic system.

The popular faction was a group of aristocratic Patricians in the late Roman Republic who relied on the people to gain political power. The Populares sought popular support against the dominant oligarchy run by the Optimates, in either the interest of the citizens or in the interest to further their own political power. They supported popular measures such as land-reform to earn the support of the Plebeians.
