Mutation can be defined as sudden heritable change. It actually means that a change in a base pair or deletion or addition of bases too. This may cause drastic effect based on where the mutation happened. It if happens at a regulatory or coding region, the gene may produce dysfunctional product or no proeins at all.

Yes. Mutations can and do cause changes in DNA sequences. All of the variations that we see in a species are due to mutations in the DNA, and cancer is caused by changes in DNA.

How does chemestry affect cancer?

Chemicals that do not cause cancer by themselves but can act with another chemical to cause cancer (cocarcinogens). Damage to DNA in cells can lead to cancer. ... Unrepaired DNA damage can lead to mutations, or changes, in genes, and mutations in certain genes can cause cancer. You can also inherit mutations.

Why does natural selection depend on variations and DNA?

The variations in the DNA are responsible in differences between desirable traits and unwanted traits. Mutations also cause changes in the DNA.
