The female gerbil CAN accept a new female gerbil, but it totally depends on the characteristics of the two gerbils. If one is friendly, and the other is hostile and territorial, they don't go together. You just have to try it out to see what works.

it all depends on how you introduce them because i have two gerbil and one is an adult and one is still young and they get along very well If a Gerbil has lived alone for a long time however it can be very difficult to introduce a new friend to it. I have a 2 year old female that refuses to accept a companion however the younger one I bought to pair with her happily accepted a baby Gerbil as a friend.

gerbils like to live on there own so DON'T Actually that's not true, they HAVE TO HAVE A FRIEND! You are thinking of Syrian hamsters, one of our gerbils (1 out of 2) died recently due to old age. The other that day tried to die too. it curled up in a ball and went cold and hard. After about a week it was ok so now we just give it extra attention. Being one year old, unless it is unhappy i think it is best to leave it as one, not two. Anyway, sometimes they try to fight to see who is boss and that can often lead to death.
