People outside your home (but within range of your router) could use your wireless internet, if they knew your WEP key. However if you don't give anyone your WEP key, they would be unable to access your router.

Is the wep key the routOrs password?

No The WEP key is the key used to encrypt the wireless traffic, so people can't sniff the data and see what your doing. No WEP key, no connect to the network. No router password, and you can't log into the router to modify the WEP key.

WPA and WEP are not compatible with each other. They are completely different kinds of encryption.

What is suddenlinks wep key?

The WEP key is the encryption key needed to access the wireless network. Only people who are authorised to use it, will know the key, keeping unauthorised people off.

Does wep and security pin mean the same thing?

WEP is a type of wireless encryption. Devices can access that network using a WEP key, the decryption code. Some people might refer to that as a PIN, but PINs are typically numeric and shorter than a WEP key, and also are meant to identify one person, while multiple devices may share a WEP key.

Im trying to find a WEP key so you can access the internet on your ds lite and im completely lost you cant even get the proper ip webpage can anyone help i tried command ipconfig all and it not work?

A WEP key is the passcode used to access a wireless router. Assumedly your PC/laptop also connects to your router, you should be able to get the WEP key from those. Check your router's documentation. If you do not have a wireless router, then you don't need a WEP key. Any signals your DS picks up, in fact belong to other people, and the WEP key is exactly there to stop unauthorised people using the network.

What is the WEP key for your DS Nintendo Wifi?

A WEP key has nothing to do with your DS system but the WEP key is the password that is needed for secured wireless modem networks when you're trying to set up the connection with other devices. Most default WEP keys can be on the router or the modem already but if the key isn't a default one then you'll have to ask whoever set up your modem or Router for the WEP key.

Where can you find a WEP key for your Nintendo DS without using a router?

That doesn't technically make sense - a WEP key is the password used to access an encrypted (one form of encryption at least) router. If you don't have a router, it makes no sense to ask for a WEP key - a WEP key to access what? It's like a key with no lock, the WEP key is for a router. So if there's no router, there's no point wanting a WEP key. If there is a router and you don't know the WEP key, then clearly it's someone else's router, and the encryption is precisely to stop unauthorised people using it.

What is the WEP key for your xbox360?

WEP also stands for Wired Equivalent Privacy , the WEP is something used to block out unknown people from accessing your internet connection. There are various other forms of WEP encryptions such as Standard 64-bit WEP, 64-bit WEP and MANY others. In the form of it being for the Xbox, it's going to show or ask for one because whatever you are trying to connect to has some sort of security to disallow unwanted people from accessing the connection. If you don't remember your key, I would recommend trying to restart your router one way or another, if that doesn't work, call your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

What replaced WEP?
