No you should not feed your sugar gliders rabbit food. They have a very specific diet they need to remain healthy.

I have two male sugar gliders. I researched on the internet quite a bit to get a proper diet for them.

I use this daily:

3 fresh veggies (Chopped very small)

3 fresh fruit (Chopped very small)

Sprinkling of crushed monkey biscuits

5-10 small meal worms

1 teaspoon of Leadbeaters mix:

The Leadbeaters mix is a frozen mixture of:

1/2 cup Apple juice

1/2 cup honey

3/4 cup hi-protein baby cereal

1/4 cup wheat germ

1/4 cup sweet potato - grated

1/4 cup carrots - grated

1 hard boiled egg w/ shell

1/2 teaspoon Rep-Cal reptile vitamins

1 turkey&sweet potato baby food / 2 1/2 ounce jar

Rabbits should never eat cookies or any processed or treat foods made for humans. Even many processed treats made for rabbits are unhealthy for them!

Rabbits have sensitive digestive systems. If you're thinking of feeding your rabbit a treat, consider these three principles:

  1. There are many foods that are poisonous to rabbits (like chocolate); there are other foods that aren't poisonous but which rabbits can't digest properly (like dairy, animal fats, nuts) -- all these foods can make your rabbit sick.
  2. If rabbits don't eat enough fibre (hay, mainly) every day, they will get sick (mushy poops, cecal dysbiosis, GI stasis, etc.), and too many treats can spoil a rabbit's appetite for hay.
  3. A diet high in fat will eventually lead to obesity, and obese rabbits have a hard time grooming and getting around -- this leads to skin diseases, bone structure problems, and general messiness.

If you want to treat your rabbit, that must mean you like your rabbit and don't want to hurt it: so be responsible and choose a safe treat! Your rabbit will love you just as much. (Remember, rabbits aren't children: they don't have friends bragging about the junk food they get at home, they don't get tempted by commercials, and they have limited memory and self-awareness -- witholding junk food from a bunny is not hard for them like it is for humans!). Safe treats include:

  • A small bite or two of fruit (like blueberry, pineapple, papaya, apple -- note that apple seeds are toxic!)
  • A small bite or two of veg (like carrot; many leafy greens are good for daily consumption but other vegetables are treat foods)
  • An oat groat or two (these are NOT oatmeal: animal feed stores and health food bulk stores usually have oat groats for sale)
  • A long cuddle
  • A supervised jaunt into a part of the home normally hidden from rabbit view
  • A new toy

No, rabbits can't eat sweets; even too many natural sweets (like fruits and vegetables) can make a rabbit sick. Rabbits shouldn't eat any "human" foods like cookies, crackers, candies, breads, cereals, chips, etc. Aside from the rabbit pellets you give a pet rabbit, and hay (dried grass), rabbits should only eat fresh foods (dark leafy greens, and some fruits and veggies), and only in moderation. See the related question below for more info about the rabbit diet.

No! Rabbits might try to eat it, but don't let them! Chocolate is toxic and is harmful to them!
