You have been a permanent resident for 3 years or more and meet all eligibility requirements to file as a spouse of a U.S. citizen. See the "Spouses of U.S. Citizens" link under "Citizenship by Naturalization" to the left.

You have been a permanent resident for at least 5 years and meet all other eligibility requirements. See the "General Path to Naturalization" link under "Citizenship by Naturalization" to the left.

Can a US citizen apply for EU citizenship after marrying a man with EU and U.S citizenship?

None of the member states of the EU will allow you to apply for their citizenship right after the marriage. You must first get the permanent residence of the concerned member state and meet all the requirements (e.g. residence period, language ability and even renouncing the US citizenship if they require you to). After that you can apply for their citizenship.

I got my green card sincevmarch 2009. can i apply for citizenship even tough i lived with my citizen spouse for only 12months.?

You can apply for citizenship if you can prove it to the USCIS that your marriage was not made for the sole purpose of getting a green card. But that will be really a hard task as you had been living with your spouse for only 12 months. On the assumption that you have succeeded in convincing the USCIS about the genuineness of your marriage, you can file in your citizenhsip application only after competing 5 yrs as a permanent resident. This is because, even though you got the Green card through your marriage, you are not living in that marriage as of now.

If someone is in the United States on a student visa how can he become a legal resident?

Having a student visa means that you are legally in the U.S. They could change their student visa to a working visa (H1. After that they can apply for a green card and later apply for citizenship. Getting a green card can take years. Only after getting a green card they will be able to apply for citizenship. The process can become much easier if that person gets married with an American citizen. Then, it will be a question of months.

How do I obtain an Italian citizenship through marriage?

If you are married to Italian then getting Italian citizenship is very easy. You can apply for Italian citizenship after being resident of Italy for six months. The law was supposed to change in mind 2008 but I am not sure if it has really changed. If you live outside Italy then you can apply after three years of being married. Once you submit your application and all relevant documents you need to sit back and wait two years to hear from them.
