How do you put an alternator belt on a 1992 Geo Storm?

your belt tensioner is built in on the mounting bracket off the engine. you will only find two bolts that hold on the alternator to the engine, one is a pivot hinge, a long bolt that if loosened will allow the alternator to move away or closer to the engine, (tension). the other is on a sliding bracket on the front of the alternator that works with the pivot bolt. i can't remember whether its a 14 or 12 mm bolt. either way, just loosen both of the bolts, hammer or pry the alternator towards the engine, slip on the belt. make sure the belt fits into the grooves properly, then pry the alternator away from the engine. make sure the belt is extremely tight. i just replaced mine and i didn't pry hard enough and it slipped off halfway to a friends house, (not fun). anywas it's best to have someone pry the alternator and you tighten the bolts. in order to replace the alternator belt you have to remove the ac and power steering pump belt. both the ac compressor and the power steering pump work the same way as the alternator. loosen them bolts and hammer or pry them towards the engine to slip it off. good luck. i know i needed it. your belt tensioner is built in on the mounting bracket off the engine. you will only find two bolts that hold on the alternator to the engine, one is a pivot hinge, a long bolt that if loosened will allow the alternator to move away or closer to the engine, (tension). the other is on a sliding bracket on the front of the alternator that works with the pivot bolt. i can't remember whether its a 14 or 12 mm bolt. either way, just loosen both of the bolts, hammer or pry the alternator towards the engine, slip on the belt. make sure the belt fits into the grooves properly, then pry the alternator away from the engine. make sure the belt is extremely tight. i just replaced mine and i didn't pry hard enough and it slipped off halfway to a friends house, (not fun). anywas it's best to have someone pry the alternator and you tighten the bolts. in order to replace the alternator belt you have to remove the ac and power steering pump belt. both the ac compressor and the power steering pump work the same way as the alternator. loosen them bolts and hammer or pry them towards the engine to slip it off. good luck. i know i needed it.

How do you replace the alternator on a 1998 Nissan Maxima V6 3000?

I have had to do this twice, and the easiest way is to go from underneath. Start by removing the Air conditioning unit. Don't unscrew the Top hose on the A/C compressor unit unless you drained the fluid out (I did this and had quite a show). You can usually push the A/C Unit to the side after you remove the four long bolts and work on the Alternator, that way it is much much easier. The mounting bolt is the trickiest part, especially the flat one that goes on the top. (Once I sat out in the yard pushing the alternator upward thinking it needed to mount on the upper portion of the engine, then I noticed the grooves in the mounting bolt hard a sharp edge etched into it.) That's when I discovered a kind of indented part of the engine block next to the alternator (it had the sharp edge (a sharp corner) ). After that it was a lot easier to figure out that annoying Bracket or whatever you want to call it. The Last mounting bolt for the alternator is behind the AC Unit you have to move it out of the way, or you will never be able to remove the alternator. After all the bolts have been removed, it is easier to remove the alternator from the top. Someone needs to push the AC Unit up and towards the engine. ANSWER Get the car up on jack stands supported on the control arm pivots. Remove the front air intake. Remove the cooling fan. Remove the horn. Remove the splash guard in the right side wheel well. Remove the right side front splash guard. Take off the serpentine belt. Remove the tensioner pulley. Dismount the A/C compressor but do not open the hose connections on it. Hang the A/C compressor by a Coat hangar wire so it's away from the alternator. Take out the two bolts on the top of the alternator top bracket. Remove the alternator pivot bolt. Take the alternator out from the top. Put in the new alternator and get it all back in place and TIGHT.

How do you remove the alternator mounting bracket on a 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan?

working on itJust removed mine this afternoon. I tried to just unbolt it, unhook it and remove it. NOT... Drove to parts store to buy a Haynes Manual (couldn't find the one I already bought). V6 engines remove windshield wiper housing (no real info on that...). There it is, "remove alternator mount bracket" with no advice on how to do it. Turns out there is a nut on the bottom inside that attaches to a bolt that is part of the Belt tensioner that goes through the bottom hole. I had to push the alternator all the way to the right to get to it. That is in addition to the other three bolts. I got the bracket off and the alternator out. Have to wait till tomorrow for someone to order the 120A alternator. The tensioner came off (only held by that one bolt). I hope it goes back O.K. Will try to post an edit tomorrow (7/3/06).Put it all back together. Worked well. Don't hook the alternater up until ready to bolt back (after mounting bracket). Tensioner went back with no problems. Had to move alternator to far right to get nut started and finger tight on tensioner bolt. Then moved to far left to tighten with 15mm wrench a tiny bit at a time. Good luck and have fun. I did :)UPDATE (8/16/07):The impossible belt tensioner nut/bolt on the bottom of the alternator bracket does not need to be removed to extract the alternator. Repeat...step away from the nut.As long as the rest of the alternator bracket is unbolted, you can rock the main bracket back and forth to free the alternator. You will need to pop loose the windshield washer drain hose to make some more room for removal. Turn the alternator so that the pulley is facing toward you and its two bolt holes are in a vertical position. The alternator should pull right out with little effort.

How do you replace water pump on a 1993 Plymouth Voyager?

Depending on engine its pretty simple... for the 2.5 its: First u drain the coolant. Remove Serpintine belt Remove the A/C Compressor and keep it out of the way with someone such as rope or a bungee cord, whatever you might have to keep it up and out of the way... Remove Alternator. Remove the main mounting bracket that holds the AC Compresser and Alternator on. Remove the 3 bolts holding the water pump housing to the engine block. Now all you have to do is remove the water pump from the water pump housing then do this in reverse. Installing the new gaskets and such.

What is the role of a Alternator Repairer?

The alternator of a car is responsible for charging the car battery. Someone who repairs a broken alternator ensures that the alternator works again and continues to keep the car battery charged.

How do you change alternator belt on a Mazda 626?

you need to loosen the pulley itself so that it can work it's way down to the bracket. it has to be a 17mm socket, and unless someone put a different bolt on the pulley. 17mm should be your number. maybe try cleaning the bolt ahead

Can someone tell you what alternator brackets you need for a drivers side mount short water pump on a sb Chevy 283 that has powerpack heads with no mounting holes?

Depending on what side of the engine the alternator is located in the exhaust manifold or header there are two holes for a bracket that looks like the letter capital e with the top missing the other a hockey stick with a slot for adjustment the other end to the water pump

How do you take out alternator on 2000 Mercury Cougar 4-cylinder?

On my 2000 cougar we started by disconnecting battery. Then lifted up the vehicle from the right side, took out front right tire and wheel wells (splash guards). Then we undo the serpentine belt, tensioner is next to crankshaft. After you take off the belt, unbolt the tensiones (two bolts). You won't be able to just take off the alternator, you must take off the bracket, theres about 4 or 5 bolts you must undo, the tough ones are the ones behind the alternator right under the intake runner. Once you remove the bracket bolts, remove the alternator bolts (3-two in front, one in back) then you can remove alternator from bracket, allowing you to remove the alternator since they would jus hit against the side of the chassis if bracket would not had been removed. Remove bracket from the bottom, alternator must come out through wheel well, the steering knuckle (i think that's what its called) must be removed from the top side, allowing you to swing it towards the front of the car, so you have enough room to remove the alternator.....that's how we did it kind of..it sounds complicated because it is...its more of a two man job if no lift is available, make sure to secure the car on floor jacks before getting underneath it since its the only way to get the bolts for the bracket and the alternator near the intake runners. I've been searching for an answer on how to remove it but all I've found was alternators on V6 cougars..which is a way more complicated way from what I've heard...I hope this helps someone else working on a 2000 mercury cougar 4 cyl. Tools mainly used, 1/2 socket, reg and deep. 1/2 rachet, a size 10 wrench, and an adapter for the rachet...theres some other, I can't remember the sizes but you'll figure it out once you get underneath and try it yourself.

My refrigerator buzzes in back right around the compressor area. Why?
