Yes sweet potatoes contain sugar
According to my Atkins carb counting chart, there are 19.2 grams of carbohydrate in a sweet potato. A sweet potato is also low on the glycemic index meaning it is slow to raise your blood sugar level.
Any Chinese food that contains glucose in some form, whether it be starch or sugar, can raise blood sugar. Such foods include and are not limited to: egg rolls, noodles, rice, sweet and sour sauce, and battered chicken.

The treat will raise your blood sugar level (no surprise there) and that signals the brain that it is time to be awake and alert! Not a good sleep hygiene strategy.
