Once frozen, meat should not be refrozen without being cooked first. So if you have thawed 2 pounds of ground beef and then you bake a meatloaf with it, then you can re-freeze the meatloaf. But don't re-freeze the raw hamburger.

Can beef steak be thawed and refrozen?

If you are asking if it OK to use, you will have to make that decision. You know how the meat was handled, stored, defrosted and refrozen. If you have doubts about its safety, throw it out.

Can venison be refrozen?

Raw meat, whether venison or beef or any other type, can be frozen once. If frozen raw meat is thawed, it should be cooked and eaten, or cooked and refrozen. Once cooked venison is thawed it should not be refrozen.

Can you refreeze raw vacuum packed meat?

It depends somewhat on the meat. However, most red meats and pork can be re-frozen with this caveat: the meat must have been thawed in the refrigerator. If it was quick thawed in water or the microwave, it should not be refrozen. It depends on how completely it was defrosted. If it still had ice crystals it was not thawed completely. If all of it got over 32 Deg F do not refreeze.

Can shipped beef that was frozen for shipment be refrozen if it has begun to defrost when delivered?

If it is still icy and contains ice crystals, it can be re-frozen. Hopefully, it was at least shipped with cold packs to keep the temp at 40°F or less. Actually, if it was fully thawed and was maintained at 40°F or less, it could still be refrozen, but multiple freeze-thaw cycles degrade the quality of meat.

Can a thawed spaghetti and sausage sauce be refrozen?

Yes, you shouldn't have any problem with this. I don't think I'd do it if the spaghetti sauce was made with clams or poultry but if it's vegetarian or beef-based, you should be fine.

Why is it bad to refreeze raw chicken meat?

Refreezing meat isn't a good idea. But if you must, the meat should not have been old the first time it was frozen, it should have been thawed under refrigeration and then frozen again shortly after being thawed. Realize that the quality of the meat will be negatively affected. The flavor will likely degrade and the meat will be drier and tougher when cooked.

Can a microwave thawed piece of beef be ok to eat after 3 hours of leaving out?

A microwave thawed piece of beef can be ok to eat after 3 hours of leaving out if the meat is kept at a cool temperature while it is out. The meat will need to be cooked until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit or more.

Can roast beef baked and sliced be refrozen for future use?

Yes, but it's a bit tricky to reheat it without overcooking it; if it gets too hot, it loses it's pink color and gets tough.

Can ground beef that was partially thawed in refrigertor and the refrozen be safe to cook and eat?

Most experts do not recommend refreezing meat that has thawed but there are some conditions under which it can be done with no harmful consequences. I've done it on occasion. I think the reason they flatly discourage it is because so many people would do it even when their handling of the meat is outside the parameters of safety so it's easier to just say "Don't do it". First, the meat MUST be kept cold, even if thawed, the entire time. If it's only partially thawed, that's better. If it's thawed, it should not have been left on the counter to thaw because it would not stay cold. The meat should be wrapped - either in foil, plastic wrap, or a plastic bag. In other words, meat that has been kept wrapped is less likely to be subject to more bacterial contamination than is safely overcome. Of course it should be discarded if there is any "off" odor. Do not ever refreeze any type of meat or poultry that has been thawed and has been at room temperature for a length of time. That's asking for problems. But if it's still cold, it will be okay to refreeze once. The times I've done this is when I have taken something out of the freezer and put it in the refrigerator to thaw, then my husband might suggest going out to dinner or picking up something to bring home. I seldom turn down that kind of offer so that's when I've refrozen what I had thawed. I've never had a problem.

Can you freeze cooked beef that was previously frozen?

Yes, you can refreeze ground beef after it has been cooked. Once the freshly cooked beef has cooled to room temperature put it in a container and freeze it immediately. It will keep for up to 3 months frozen. However once it is frozen, while it is OK to thaw it and reheat it to eat, you should NOT allow it to thaw then refreeze it. In general the process of cooking food (to boiling point for 10 - 15) minutes will kill any bacteria in the food. Thus if you allow it to cool covered then freeze it immediately it will be largely free of bacteria (there will be some that come form the air after it has cooled) and thus it will keep good to eat for some time.

Thawed beef roast left in sink overnight is it safe it has no smell?

No one can answer that for you. Potentially hazardous food should not be allowed to defrost overnight at room temperatures. If you cook it, you do so at your own risk.
