Yes, overfilling can damage an engine. Too much oil causes the crankshaft to make contact with the oil and form a froth of oil and air. This froth of oil and air is a poor lubricant and will cause bearing wear.

Would overfilling of oil cause your engine to smoke and what do you do?

Yes, overfilling can cause smoking, and you need to drain the extra out.

Will overfilling engine with oil make the car smoke?

Yes

Will overfilling oil cause an oil leak?

Possibly. Excess oil increases oil pressure and can put an extra strain on gaskets. This is especially the case when "heavier" oil is used (i.e. 15/40) rather than say 5/30 or 0/30. Consistently overfilling your oil will eventually lead to leaks as the system is designed to operate under certain pressures and by overfilling you are exceeding that.Obviously, older cars or cars that are driven in extreme conditions will be more susceptible. What is generally considered "overfilling?" Anything more than 1/4 of a quart is a good rule to go by.

What bearings in a 350 cause low oil pressure?

Cam bearings, Main bearings, Rod bearings.

How will overfilling the engine oil damage a catalytic converter?

Your biggest problem with overfilling the engine is not damage to the converter but damage to the engine itself. Overfilling causes the crankshaft to make contact with the oil. This will cause a situation where air will be mixed with the oil. This air mixed with the oil causes the oil to lose it's lubricating properties as air is a poor lubricant. This will cause the engine to overheat and will result in severe wear to all moving parts within the engine. If you overfill the engine drain the excess oil out immediately.

What is the correct oil reading?

Where it indicates "full" on the oil dipstick. Overfilling will cause too much pressure and possibly rupture oil lines.

Oil blowing out dipstick.why?

The oil reservoir is too full!! Overfilling the oil does not make it better - it makes it worse and/or equal to not having enough.

What causes an intrepid car to shut off when the oil light comes on then restart when you put more oil in but overfilling the oil?

your oil sending unit is bad

What is the impact of overfilling a diesel engine with motor oil?

Overfilling in any car will violently splash oil all over everything and can weaken the piston rings, screwing up your compression and creating some pretty deep and expensive engine work.

What happens when you put too much oil in the engine?

First off, drain it back down to where it should be. Oil leaks can be caused by overfilling the oil.

What does it mean if your oil pressure gauge is high?

If your oil pressure gauge is high you have to much oil in your engine. Overfilling your engine can result in you blowing out your gaskets.
