Check in the glovebox on the white sticker. Gu6 is the code for 3.42:1 which was standard GT4 is the code for 3.73:1 which was an option.. Also the code G80 would tell you if you have a locking rear differential.
Check in your glove box for the code... 2.73=gu2 3.08=gu4 3.42=gu6 3.73=gt4,gq1 4.10=gt4 G80=posi trac
GU6 is just in indicator of the differential ratio a gu6 is a 3.42:1 ratio. it could be single track, limited slip or gov lock. if it is gov lock you should also have a g80 code in your glove box. if so and you tow or have tall tires be ready to replace when master pin breaks
the 3.42:1 ratio was standard for that year if you look in the glovebox there is a white sticker with a list of codes you are looking for in the G section GU6 for 342 or GT4 for 3.73:1.. Also G80 is the code for locking differential.
The codes GU6 and G80 are for the gear ratio on your vehicle the G80 code indicates your vehicle was eqipped from the factory with a locking rear differential and the GU6 code indicates your gear ratio.
check your option code tag in the glove box look for gt4 gu6 call dealer and they will tell you what ratio you have good luck
check option label in glove box for g codes gu6 = 342 gt4 =373 gt5 =411 etc or call dealer with vin
Most common ratios for that year with a 350v-8 (vin K) 3.73:1 or 3.42:1 In the glove compartment is a sticker containing "RPO" codes 3.73:1 = GT4 3.42:1 = GU6 You can call a GM dealer, give them your FULL VIN and they can tell you what the truck was equipted with from the factory.
