Where is the thermostat located on a 1992 Pontiac Grand Am SE. I took off the clamp on the top rad hose and pulled it off the pipe going into the engine but I don't see any bolts holding the thermosta?

if its a 3300 v6, its where the top rad hose connects to the engine. if its a quad four, its inside a pipe that runs from the back of the engine to the bottom rad hose It's in the top radiator hose, where it connects to the engine. I think it's 2 bolts (might be 3).

Why does the engine race when the clutch is pulled in?

The revs jump up because when the clutch is pulled in the engine gets disconnected from the wheels. This means that it no longer has to move the weight of the bike and it's driver, so its much easier for the engine to work.
