Will a speed sensor keep an automatic transmission from working?

Depending on the vehicle, a faulty VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) could affect the automatic transmission shift points.

Why will your 1992 dodge diesel automatic transmission NOT shift into overdrive?

if the speedo is also not working it could be a vss problem or an issue with the gear or square shaft where speedometer hooks to tranny/ if speedo works just no overdrive there is a temp sensor on the tranny that can keep od from working or may be wiring issue with factory od on/off switch

1997 dodge neon speedometer not working?

Could be the speed sensor or another common problem with neons is broken solder points on the instrument cluster circuit board. To test it, see if your cruise control can keep you at speed. If so, it's the instrument cluster. If not could be the speed sensor. If you don't have cruise, then you may have to inspect the cluster for broken solder points.

You have replaced the speed sensor and O2 sensor on your 1996 Nissan 200SX After a week or so the check engine light came back on Why does this keep happening?

Could be the knock sensor.

Would the speed sensor keep the accord from going into overdrive?

How do you change the vehicle speed sensor?

are you refering to the on in the rear diff?unbolt the little steel bracket remove the diff vent.now it it unbolted.carefully pry up a little spray some penetrating oil on it there is an oring that seals the sensor in.that also makes it tough to remove.twist and pry it up.if it breaks screw down into the sensor and keep pulling.if it wont come out time to service the diff.remove the cover and pop the sensor up.becareful not to bend any teeth on the tone wheel.reseal the cover refill the diff and replace the sensor.your speedo should work again.

What happens to vehicle if the the right wheel speed sensor goes out?

ABS will no longer work (properly).Depending on the car, it might either keep working otherwise, or go into the car equivalent of "safe mode", only allowing low speed driving to get it out of traffic and into service.Could also have a inoperative speedometer, a check engine light, and a not shifting transmission.

What problems can be caused by increasing tire size on a truck?

Depends on how big you go. Odometer/speedometer will be out, some vehicles may have issues because of the vehicle speed sensor. Also keep in mind that the higher the center of gravity on a vehicle the more unstable the vehicle will be. The speedo can be compensated by changing the cable gear in the trany. On some vehicles you can get around the speed sensor and the stability issue can be minimized by rim ofset & tire width to some extent but stability could be a safety problem. Check your clearance between the tires & the inner wheel wells also as well as clearance with other parts.

Whats an over speed sensor on the AC on an 2003 eclipse?

If you are driving fast or hard the A/C pump will turn off to keep you from damaging the system.

Does a crankshaft position sensor on a 2004 dodge durango have a backup system default mode that will allow the engine to continue to run for a short period of time?

Normally if the crank sensor fails while running, the engine can keep running with just a working camshaft sensor.

How do you change the speedometer sensor on a 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport?

These vehicles do not have speedometer cables. There is an Output Speed Sensor mounted on the transmission. That sends electronic data to the powertrain control module PCM and the body control module BCM. The PCM uses the speed data to coordinate shifting. The BCM uses the data to drive the speedometer. It's all digital. Rick I'm a retired ASE Master/L-1 Technician. I still keep current with the latest automotive technology. Visit my blog for cool articles and TSB's: http://free-auto-repair-advice.blogspot.com/ Follow the speedo cable inside eng compartment down to where it connects to the sensor. Unscrew the cable, pull the elec plug, take out the 10mm bolt, pull the sensor. Replace is opposite.

How does a speedometer measure distances?

It doesn't. A speedo only measures the speed you're travelling at, at that particular moment. But you can get distance, if you stay at an even speed, and keep track of how long you've been going. Speed x time = distance. One hour at 50 MPH means 50 miles travelled. 1/2 hour at 50 MPH means 25 miles travelled.
