Can the scientific method be used to deny or prove the existence of God?

Not conclusively; at least not yet. Otherwise, either Atheism or religion would have been universally accepted among people who have learned the relevant topics.
However, if someone claims that the answer is No because no evidence is out there (or has been found), his statement would be misleading. The scientific method is used to seekevidence, not to deny its existence. Such seeking can certainly be attempted.

There is no way to effectively prove that God does or does not exist by scientific methods. There are clues that perhaps there is a higher being planning things, but no solid evidence one way or another. The scientific method requires hard data in order to work properly, and there just is no hard data about God. You'll have to make your own mind up on the subject based on what you believe in your own heart.

∙ 6y agoActually it can't. There doesn't seem to be any clear evidence for (or against) a god or gods. This lack of evidence may actually conflict with certain beliefs about the gods, according to which there should be CLEAR EVIDENCE that some god exists. But this can't be used to refute the belief in ANY gods, since you can easily imagine gods that don't interact with the world.This apparent lack of evidence makes it doubtful - in my opinion - that there are gods at all; but this is NO PROOF.

There are tens of proofs for God's existence. However, this subject ultimately becomes one of personal belief, since our possession of free-will mandates that it be possible to put forth arguments (fallacious or not) against every one of the proofs.
On the other hand:
Many think that science, and specifically Evolution, have proved that there is no God. They don't comprehend that even if Evolution was an unquestionable fact, it would not automatically follow that God isn't there. They also may be unaware that there are some highly-qualified scientists who do not believe in Evolution.
