It is quite possible. Let us say that both of these solid black mice breed together, and have a few pale babies. This would give reason to believe that they are what is called 'heterozygous' for agouti. If a male and female mice were pure bred black, then the gene would be represented as such:

Male: BB Female: BB

BB, Bb= Black

bb= agouti

Now, if your rats are heterozygous for the agouti gene (Bb) it means that they look black, but have the agouti gene in them. The black colour being the dominant trait, and the agouti being recessive. If you cross two Bb rats, the offspring will come out like so:

BbxBb=

25% Pure black rats (BB), this is called homozygous

50% heterozygous rats (Bb)

and 25% homozygous recessive (bb)

So, to say it simply, yes. Two black mice can have light agouti babies. Search up punnet square, monohybrid and dihybrid crosses to learn more.

Lets say that the allele for black fur B is dominant to the allele for white fur b in rats If you cross a black rat with a white rat and get offspring which are 6 black and 5 white what is the?

There are two base colors of rats, black and agouti. Agouti is the 'wild-type' rat, and it is designated with an A and is dominant. Black is the recessive form of agouti, and is designated with an a. So if you have a black rat, he is doubly recessive (aa). When you say 'white rat', I'm assuming you mean your rat is a pink-eyed-white or an albino. Rats can get this way in two different ways, either they are homozygous for albinism (cc) or they have so many other recessives that it washes out their color entirely. I am willing to bet it is an albino, as they are very common in pet stores. The problem with albinos is that when a rat is homozygous for albinism (cc), it makes them albino no matter what their other genes are. This rat could have all kinds of recessives hidden or it could have none. Since you bred your two rats and got both black and 'white' babies, I would say that your black rat carries the albino gene 'c' and your albino rat does not carry any recessives that your black rat has, except for black of course (a). So your albino rat is technically a black rat with two copies of the albino gene. I know it seems kind of confusing =) For more information about rat care including genetics please visit my website at http://careguide.evergreenrattery.com or feel free to email me at info@evergreenrattery.com . In certain rats black fur is dominant over white fur If two rats both heterozygous for fur color are mated their offspring would be expected to have?

There different genotypes and two different colors Black fur is dominant --> F White fur is recessive --> f The parents are bot Ff (heterozygotes, and because black fur is dominant they have a black fur). If they mate, you get parents: Ff x Ff Offspring: FF Ff Ff ff so 25% will be homozygous for Black fur 2x25=50% will be heterozygous, and have a Black fur and 25% wil be homozygous for White fur. Hence, of their offspring, 75% will have a black fur and 25% will have a white fur
