Yes, you have 2 options. First, mix in some lead substitute with any tank full of unleaded, available at most parts stores. Seond, you have to remove the cylinder head(s) and have a machine shop install hardened valve seats. Then, you can use all of the unleaded you want. The reason for this is that in the pre-unleaded days, the lead in gas served as a lubrication for the valve seats. When the wonderful EPA banned leaded gas, the lead-lubricant was gone. The car makers compensated for this by hardening the valve seats, making lead uneccasary. However, using unleaded in cars bult before about 1974 or so will result in fried valves/ valve job. I'm told that the notoriously bad valve life in old Volkswagon beetles was a direct result of unleaded gas being run in these engines.
Well, I am not sure where you can even get leaded fuel anymore, BUT even NASCAR went unleaded. the onl reason we used lead was to stop PRE IGN. and with technology of todays additives, they have done that as well with out lead. So YES unleaded is prefered in my thinking. Where are you able to get leaded fuel? in the USA? or are you in another country?
An engine of that era would run better on leaded gas.
The engine originally ran on leaded gas (hence, no torque converter). Leaded gas is no longer available (in the US), but the vehicle will run well on unleaded.
If you managed to find any leaded gas then No, it will not hurt anything.
I don't believe there is a such thing as a leaded fuel engine. All gasoline is unleaded, some just a higher grade.
Of course you use unleaded gas. I don't know where you would find leaded gas these days. Are you referring to PREMIUM unleaded gas? Yes, the manufacturer suggests you use Premium octane gasoline in the Nissan Juke (91 or better).
leaded gas has lead in it, unleaded does not Leaded petrol (or gas as you Americans quaintly call it) contained a chemical called Lead Tetraethyl to improve its performance. It was then discovered that the amount of lead given out by cars (or automobiles) was making city air dangerous to breathe and so its use has been forbidden. All petrol/gas is now unleaded and "green". Car engines have needed to be redesigned to allow them to burn the unleaded fuel.
Hi, I would like to know this as well, anybody out there know I think it will run on unleaded. I don't think they make leaded gas any more unless you buy the additive.
You can use unleaded gas in any gas lantern,I am using it for years in 100+ lanterns
Yes. I had a 1969 LeSabre in 1980 that still used leaded gas. Any auto store will have lead substitute. Maybe another poster knows if super unleaded is good enough.
If you put leaded gas in an engine that is designed to run on unleaded gas, while the engine will run, it will not run optimally and you will ruin the catalytic converter.
No, that was before the introduction of unleaded gas; however you cannot find or purchase leaded gas for use on any public street anymore.
