Leaded or unleaded gas for 1980 GL1100 Honda Goldwing?

Hi, I would like to know this as well, anybody out there know I think it will run on unleaded. I don't think they make leaded gas any more unless you buy the additive.

Does a 1986 Toyota Corolla CSX Seca AE82 take unleaded or leaded fuel?

Any vehicle after 1986 takes unleaded fuel, unless it is a diesal of course

What is the difference between leaded and un-leaded petrol?

Leaded fule has real lead in it, because the valves or piston rings needed this extra lead for lubrication. Usually it is older cars that use leaded fuels, such as cars made before 1996. Any vehicle equipped with a catalytic converter cannot use leaded fuel.

Does a 1974 amc jeep cj5 take unleaded gas?

No, that was before the introduction of unleaded gas; however you cannot find or purchase leaded gas for use on any public street anymore.

Where can you buy leaded gas?

Nowhere I know of. You can however buy a lead additive to add to unleaded fuel, at any auto parts store.

Does a 1969 buick skylark need leaded gas?

Yes. I had a 1969 LeSabre in 1980 that still used leaded gas. Any auto store will have lead substitute. Maybe another poster knows if super unleaded is good enough.

Can you used leaded petrol in lieu of unleaded in an emergency?

Yes. The biggest risk of leaded gas is that you will "poison" the catalytic converter, meaning that you'll flunk your next emissions test. However, apparently you might get away with using a couple of gallons. Otherwise, occasional use of leaded fuel shouldn't hurt your engine. If I were stuck in the middle of the Amazon with an empty gas tank, I'd definitely accept any leaded fuel that came my way. Be aware that most pumps that still sell leaded gas use larger nozzles (deliberately) that won't fit in the fuel filler of unleaded cars. So you'll need a long funnel or something like that.

Will leaded gas in unleaded motor damadge the motor in any way?

Leaded gas will leave deposits on spark plugs and valves, however, it used to be that those deposits helped lube or cushion the valve seats, so it was desireable. In todays engines, this is not the case and valves were not designed to require lead deposits. The real damage is done to the TWC - Catalytic converter. Lead coats and disables the converter catalyst. It can clog the convertor. It will quickly render the device useless, and your vehicle will no longer pass emissions. If you have an OBDII based vehicle (1995 or newer) it will eventually throw a check engine light as well. Lead can also damage or coat O2 sensors in some designs. In short, the vehicle may run for a while, but it's control systems and emissions systems will be damaged and require replacement. Oh, and I believe it definitely invalidates any manufacturer or federal emissions warranty the vehicle may have.

Leaded gas verses unleaded is cheaper?

We no longer use leaded gasoline. We only use unleaded, which is sold in three octane ratings. I think it goes Regular unleaded 87 octane, unleaded octane 92, then maybe 97 which they call premium. Lots of people buy the middle or higher grade which costs more, and doesn`t help any ! If you car runs ok on regular there is no use spending the extra money for the middle grade. In fact there is so little difference they should come from the same tank. Check your owners manual if your manual doesn`t tell you to use premium, then use the regular which will cost you less.

Can unleaded gas be used instead of leaded gas?

Yes, you have 2 options. First, mix in some lead substitute with any tank full of unleaded, available at most parts stores. Seond, you have to remove the cylinder head(s) and have a machine shop install hardened valve seats. Then, you can use all of the unleaded you want. The reason for this is that in the pre-unleaded days, the lead in gas served as a lubrication for the valve seats. When the wonderful EPA banned leaded gas, the lead-lubricant was gone. The car makers compensated for this by hardening the valve seats, making lead uneccasary. However, using unleaded in cars bult before about 1974 or so will result in fried valves/ valve job. I'm told that the notoriously bad valve life in old Volkswagon beetles was a direct result of unleaded gas being run in these engines.
