If they happen early enough in the pregnancy, there may be little symptoms and some women may have them and never even know, thinking it was just a heavy menstrual flow. However, the longer the pregnancy lasted, the more difficult and risky they are. If you think you have had or are having a miscarriage you should seek medical attention. There can be excessive bleeding or a doctor may need to remove any retained tissue from the placenta or fetus.

Yes in short, but the risk is extremely small and should not normally be considered as a reason to stop having intercourse during the pregnancy. In any case, the miscarriage is more likely to attributed to something else beside sexual intercourse; drug use, deformation of the egg, or an autoimmune response are more likely the cause.

Read these articles to help you understand the risks of miscarriages. WebMD is a reasonably sound source of medical information.

http://www.webmd.com/baby/tc/miscarriage-topic-overview http://www.webmd.com/baby/guide/sex-and-pregnancy http://www.webmd.com/baby/features/sex-during-pregnancy-is-it-safe

HOWEVER, when in doubt visit the physician who is in charge of you pregnancy! He or she will be quite knowledgeable about this topic and will be able to determine if you should abstain during your pregnancy.

Any questions regarding your safety and you baby's safety should ALWAYS be taken directly to your physician, before, during, and after the pregnancy!!! Do not put your life or your child's at risk because of ignorance!

Being sexually active is usually considered safe through the eight month of pregnancy; however, the greatest risk lies in the possibility of transmission of a sexually transmitted disease, since pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) could affect the course of the pregnancy.
