No, idiot. An idiot he is not! and yes you can, it does not contain any harmful properties that will perish the seals and is of similar viscosity. I found this out whilst driving my ford transit connect through the city on a Sunday when the power steering feed pipe came loose and consequently threw all the oil out leaving me with very hard steering. I drove to the nearest petrol station whom had everything for household needs but only engine oil and screen-wash in their vehicle department. I then drove to the next which was no different, by now I was getting a smell from the power steering filler tank and so decided to buy a liter of vegetable oil as I knew engine oil would be to thick and may cause damage to the seals. This got me home and then some, it was fine, perfect steering, I done around 200 miles and then bought some power steering fluid, emptied the veg oil, put some power steering oil in, run it through, emptied that and refilled again with power steering fluid. I have no leaks and my steering is perfect. Vegetable oil got me out of trouble and left no problems, plus it was only £1.53 and I still had some left for a few breakfasts!! people who think outside the box are not idiots............idiot!
