An appeal can be filed even when a jury verdict has been rendered. However, the filing of such does not necessarily mean it will be heard or another trial granted. If you can show that you received poor/negligent counsel, and that it likely contributed to an improper result, you may be able to get a new hearing. Doing all that may turn out to be a tougher case to prove than your original one. You should find out more about why your lawyer acted as you think he did..it is likely the things your thinking weren't disclosed (or I guess put into evidence) and ashould have been and would have helped, did not meet the rather strict rules of evidence acceptable for submittal and therefore couldn't be.
You may appeal the outcome of your trial. You can try to represent yourself (pro se) or, find a private attorney to represent your if you can find one who agrees that the case might be arguablet. As a practical matter I doubt that you'll get any further help for the Public Defenders Office.

Public defenders earn anywhere from 40,000 to 85,000 per year. It depends on where you are a public defender. Los Angeles is where public defenders salaries are the highest. According to salary information available from the US government, the range depends on state and the agency (state, local or federal). The website to get salary information for California for example is: http://www.bls.gov/oes/current/oes_ca.htm You would have to browse for the specific job title, location, etc. to find what you are looking for.
Unsure exactly what the questioner is asking. Public Defenders are government employees (exactly like State Attorneys or Prosecutors) who work on behalf of the accused defending them and ensuring that they receive adequate legal counsel and fair and equitable treatment in the courts.
Public defenders are free for indigent defendants. Inexpensive defense attorneys can be found in the yellow pages.
