Can you be allergic to red peppers?

I'm allergic to red peppers and paprika. I begin to get itchy all over my back and then break out in hives all over my legs and arms that last a few itchy days. Because of this I avoid all peppers green, yellow and spices in the pepper and Chile family.

I'm allergic to peppers period. I get what feels like food poisoning -- stomach aches, bad gastrointestinal discomfort, mild nausea, gas, and diarrhea. This lasts 6-12 hrs. I avoid all peppers, even the mild sweet ones, and if food is made with peppers, I don't touch it; I think it might be the oils which can be absorbed by other foods prepared with it.

I can tell you - it's not a pleasant experience - and because I would never order Pepperoni on my own (but eat it in a group session during a workshop or meeting) - it took me a long time to figure out the cause. Symptoms - Cramping, Diarhea, Itchy Eyes and Palete, and then throat constriction (severe on a couple of occasions). I also found one brand of Smoked Sausage (Hillshires) that has the exact same effect!

I was able to eat pepperoni from birth until the age of 18. I had my first reaction and my lip started to swell. after 6 interactions within 3 months my face would loose all definition, and my throat swells shut. i can never eat pepperoni again.

I guess so. I am unable to eat any pepper except black pepper which is a seed. I don't know why. Try cooking the pepper a long time. I seem to be able to handle it then. I am also unable to eat onions unless cooked a long time. I am trying to determine the enzyme that is gone if cooked down. I also seem to get leg cramps if I eat alot of tomatoes raw.
