To become an American citizen, you need to have been a permanent resident for at least 5 yrs, had a continuous residence of at least 5 yrs and physical presence of at least 3 months. If the applicant is over 50/55 yrs of age and have resided in the US for 20/15 yrs after becoming a green card holder, then he/she need not take the English test. If the applicant is 65 yrs or older, then he /she can be exempted from the civic test.So the most important requirement is the permanent resident status.
I believe that you're guaranteed a citizenship when you marry a citizen, but being an illegal complicates the matter.
Being American means being a citizen of the United States.
I'm pretty sure any American citizen can (assuming the law is being proposed in America)
If the baby was born in the United States of America or even at a U.S. Embassy anywhere in the world, the baby is automatically deemed an American citizen despite the parent being an illegal immigrant.
Yes. If the illegal immigrant marries a citizen, they can become a citizen from that.
Because being Canadian is just awesome! (Plus he was afraid he'd fail the test.)
An Indian cannot become a US citizen by marrying a US citizen. Not only Indians, but any other person from another country cannot become a US citizen just by marrying a US citizen. A US citizen can sponsor a Indian on an appropriate visa ( like K-1 visa) after which he/she can adjust their status to that of a permanent resident. After being a PR for 3 yrs, the Indian can then apply for US citizenship, if needed.
The expression "citizen of England" has no meaning. England is one part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the others being Scotland Wales and Northern Ireland. Anyone, from any country in the world, can apply to become a citizen of The United Kingdom.
Many states of Germany hace changed their apployment policy. A few years ago you had to be a German citizen to become a police officer. Now it is possible to become a police officer without being a German citizen in some States (like Hamburg).
Yes. A child born on American soil is an American citizen. I beleieve the question is meant to refer American soil as United States soil, being that the western hemisphere is America, therefore all children born there are Americans. And yes, a child born in the USA is a citizen of the USA, regardless if his parents are undocumented. That is the major problem facing the undocumented immgration in the US. Families are being separated because undocumanted parents are deported while the US-born child has the rights to remain in USA.
the consequesces of not being a good citizen are as follws. they become gang infested and shoot manz up
Being American is a nationality because you were born or are a citizen of the U.S. However it can't be an ethnicity because your origin or heritage is from somewhere else since america was founded by different ethnic groups
