The bore and stroke is different, But if you set the 2 side by side they will look the same other then some 400 engines have an extra freeze out plug in the side of the block that the 350 don't have. 350 bore and stroke is 4.000 bore, stroke is 3.480 400 bore is 4.125 and stroke is 3.750
A 383 is a 350 block with a 400 crank. The block is bored to 4.030". A 400 has a 4.125" bore, so you'd need to bore the 383 roughly .095", which is probably not practical as the 350 is not made to be overbored that much.
Standard bore would be 372.
no you cannot. most engines .06 overbore is usually the safe limit. on a 350 .06 only gives you 10 more cubic inch. to get to 400 you would need to bore and stroke it. which gets very expensive. youd be better off looking for a 400 from a donor vehicle.
If the heads are off, you can measure the cylinder diameter. A 350 has a 4" bore, a 400 has a 4.125" bore. Also, a 400 has two small steam holes between the cylinders. If the engine is still all together, the balancer is different. A 350 balancer is smooth and even all the way around. A 400 is externally balanced and looks much different, with parts of the balancer looking like it has been cut away.
If I remember this correctly its stock 350 4 inch fitted with the 400 crank and rods.
Well a 307 has a bore of 3.875 and a stroke of 3.25, so to build a 350 out of a 307 you would need to bore out the 307 .125 inch to a 4 inch bore, which in most cases can not be done, and you would have to put a 350 crank which has a stroke of 3.48 inches and use 350 pistons. But if you want more cubes and power out of your 307 you can bore it .03 over, have it decked .025 inches, and use a 350 crank with 400 rods and 307 pistons to make a ground pounding 333 stroker.
350 block, 400 crank. Main journals must be turned to accept 350 bearings. Stock bore is 377. .030 over is 383.
a 400 small block Chevy has a 4.125" bore.
Primarily the bore size. The 305 has a bore of 3.74 and the 350 is a 4.0 bore. They share the same stroke on the crank. And no, you can't bore a 305 to a 4.0 bore.
The Bore of a 350 cid engine is 4.00, the stroke is 3.48 inch..
No. The bore size is different between a 305 and 350. The 350 bore size is larger.
