You could probably buy this part used, but I would not recommend it. The TPS has a nose switch on it that goes in and out to adjust the air/fuel mixture. If there is carbon on the switch (which is common) it will not adjust properly or if the switch is failing electrically, there is no way to know until you install it. The part is not that expensive and I would buy it new and have a certified technician install it so that it is adjusted properly by voltage. Stalling is not an option in today's traffic, so why waste your time on a used part and take that risk? good luck.
No, you do not have to buy the entire throttle body. You can buy only the throttle position sensor. Most of the big chain stores such as Kragens, Autozone etc. should have it.
The throttle position sensor is mounted on the throttle body. the throttle position sensor on a 2006 chevy impala is an electronic plug mounted to the gas pedal. I just worked on one. If u need a new one u have to buy the whole assembly. gas pedal and all.
Its on the throttle body, back side (firewall side). Its on the passenger side of the car, where the plastic intake from the air filter hooks on to the aluminum part. Mine has a gold finish, and is a small round 'can' shape. Here is the fun part, it is riveted on to the throttle body, and is not intended for 'backyard' replacement. I haven't been able to find one for sale (haven't checked with the dealer yet), the aftermarket parts stores tell me I need to buy the entire throttle body, not just the sensor. Its also been referred to as a throttle angle sensor. When I had my 87 Honda in for service for a different problem, they said my PGM-FI light was on because of a bad throttle position sensor. I am still driving it howerver. I notice it stumbles a little on acceleration, perhaps this is why, I don't know. I found a used throttle body on the internet for $154. I don't know yet if that includes the throttle position sensor or not.
sounds like your Throttle position sensor needs adjusting buy the test light from banzai racing and follow the instructions on there same thing happened to me and my throttle position needed adjusting...good luck
The TPS is the Throttle Position Sensor. One of the inputs a fuel injection computer needs is to know how far you've got the gas mashed. To do this, they put a variable resistor on the end of the throttle shaft and call it the Throttle Position Sensor, because they can charge $50 for the one-dollar variable resistor they used to make it out of if they call it a Sensor instead of what it actually is, which is a potentiometer they buy for $750 per thousand. To find this thing, find the place the throttle cable hooks to. It'll be an arm attached to a shaft sticking out of SOMETHING--an aluminum casting, a plastic tube, whatever. On the other side of the "something" you'll find a device with wires coming out of it, which is the TPS.
The catalog number will change depending on where you buy it. The fastest way to determine this will be to call the place where you purchase parts.
Its called the throttle position sensor. I have been looking for it for months. You can find it at your local auto part store. Once you buy it (see it) you will know where it is. Just two screws hold it in. I hope this helps.
I recommend Micro Epsilon, they have some of the best position sensors on the market.
a mechanic should be able to plug into the computer to tell you but on the throttle body there is a t.p.s sensor throttle position sensor it tells the fuel pump to send more pressure there is a lot more to the fuel system and many other things could be wrong but you should buy a test light a lot of times its as simple as a lose ground
The tps is built into the throttle body. You need to buy a new assembly. I just had this done to my 08 5.3. Make sure you take it to a shop that can zero the throttle after this is done.
The problem could be the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) on the side of your throttle body. If the Rpm fluctuate when stopping also. Make note of this problem with the stalling. This is the most reason why it would stall. Just make sure the other problem In explained is there too before you go out and buy a new throttle body. I had the same problem with my colbolt and the throttle body cost was 255.00 that's with tax. So good luck.
i just changed one this summer on an L300 and you have to replace the whole throttle body it is built in and the only way to get it is to buy a throttle body i have one if you are interested part cost $ 100.00 + shipping not sure what the problem is you are having but most times the codes are not correct if it is giving you running problems and throwing t.p.s. codes and having intermittent stalling you may want to try the crank sensor first. i have had this problem with the one i have been working on.changed crank sensor and customer has been happy since. if interested text me. atten george 586-339-0342 hope this helps you.
