yeah, once you remove the oil pan, you will see the black box and you use either a screw driver, or something to pull the filter off, make sure you get a o ring gasket for the filter along with the new filter, and replace, you hit the neck with a slide hammer to re install the new filter
the transmission has to be spit apart in order to change the trans filter.
transmissions in newer pontiacs are considered to be "non-servicable." meaning you shouldn't have to change the tranny fluid/filter. before finding this info out, i changed the tranny fluid/filter in my 01 grand am and it didn't make a bit of difference.
