All registered users, new and old, can participate in an Answerthon. You must sign up for the Answerthon by the deadline, and you must be logged in during participation in order for your contributions to count.
Any badge you earn on WikiAnswers will replace your contributor badge, as your new badges will show you are a contributor.
Yes, you lose the Bronze Contributor badge on WikiAnswers when you reach 5,000 contributions. Then, after 5,000 contributions, you become a Silver Contributor, which is a good sign that tells you that you have been working hard and now you get a new reward for it all.
To get a new contributor rank, you must contribute more to the WikiAnswers community. For example, to get the Bronze contributor rank you must make at least 500 contributions.
It is part of the new format. The new recommend contributor button is to the top right. You will have to switch it to answers/editors if it is on the supervisor tab and there you will be able to recommend contributors. There is no such thing as an "experience point" on WikiAnswers, but you earn "contribution points" for each contribution you make WikiAnswers, such as answering a question or asking a question. You can also earn "trust points," when someone thinks you're a helpful or influential contributor and clicks on "Recommend contributor."
Every time there is a new AnswerThon announced, you'll need to sign up. During the AnswerThon event, you'll need to make sure you're logged into your Answers.com account in order for your answers to be counted towards your total. However, you do not need to sign up for the AnswerThon each time you log in. Check out the AnswerThon home page for more details!

If and when this happens, please contact others, introduce yourself, and just join in the all the action and fun on the site. We have a Community Outreach program whose members would love to be able to greet every new contributor to the site, but it simply isn't possible. If we don't come to you, please come to us! We love meeting our new contributors!

Not *everyone* is ready. I think a few people in Albequerque, New Mexico, and in Wisconsin haven't even heard of the contest... so you'd better tell them, quick.A:Everyone is not always ready for the AnswerThon. Some people have work to do, others are in space, and still others are in prison for their wrong doings. Although many are prepared for this AnswerThon, not all are prepared.
