yes you can. all you need is an Xbox 360 wireless adapter and your mobile hotspot on. i use this connection and it is very simple. one thing that you need to keep in mind, make sure that you dont have a security on your mobile hotspot, because the xbox will not connect. i had trouble with this for a while and i brought my adapter back and everything. i recently figured out that you cant have a password on your hotspot for the xbox to connect. i dont know why, but it works as long as you dont have a password. make sure that the setting is set to open. also make sure that no one sends you messages on your phone or dont do any other way of connecting on your phone except throught the hotspot, the less connected devices to your hotspot, the faster the ones that are connected run.

Though I'm not sure how much MBPS Xbox Live uses, a connection from the phone can be used though not recommended as it's not strong enough but should be able to withstand the heat it's taking from the Xbox Live connection (considering one is logging in, playing Xbox Live, being the host of a game [e.g. hosting a Call of Duty: Black Ops lobby]). You could use WiFi at any point of time, like using a router to connect to Xbox Live, that's what I use and I have a perfect connection.

OK, well you were half right in your question. In order to play on XBox live you will need either the wireless network adapter or run an Ethernet cable from your 360 to your home router. Simply having the hard drive will not allow you to play on XBox live.
