On the 97 s series trucks, The crankshaft sensor is located on the lower left "from front of engine" timing cover behind the dampner pulley.
Standing in front of engine, It is on the bottom left hand side of the engine, up under the exhaust manifold towards the back.
no cavaliers are front wheel drive and s10 is rear wheel drive tranny wont mount in right position (i own both a 96 s10 and a 97 cavalier)
you pull off the front wheel, then you remove the break caliper, then replace the break pads,.., it helps if you have a large C-clamp..
