Can you delete windows media player and if so how because i went to control panel and then to add or remove programs and it was not there?

Most applications that are considered part of Windows are found in a separate menu known as Windows Components.
In Windows XP, open Add or Remove Programs, then click Add / Remove Windows Components to start the wizard. Look for Windows Media Player and untick the check box and click next. Depending on the system one may need the XP Installation Disk handy.
