Be advised that ethanol, or ethyl alcohol, is flammable. It is mildly toxic, too. But is probably most dangerous for the deleterious effects it produces when it is consumed. People ingest it, become intoxicated and act differently because of the changes that CH3CH2OH, C2H5OH causes to those who have imbibed.

Ethanol Alcohol is safe to drink (responsibly) as it has 2 carbon atoms and it is the one used in all Alcoholic Beverages. Any other type of alcohol (methyl, isopropyl, butanol) are poisonous to the human body. For example if you drink methyl alcohol (derivied from wood) you will cause permanent swelling of the optic nerve and in turn you will go blind.

Although ethanol is used in alcohol - no, pure ethanol is not edible. It is too strong for the human body and has an overpowering vapour.

Being exposed to ethanol vapours can cause blackouts or, sometimes, even blindness. Drinking the pure liquid can cause intense scalding of the windpipe and oesophagus, causing breathing complications and a slow, agonising death.

Ethanol in alcoholic drinks has been watered down and weakened to safe levels. But drinks with ethanol are still known to cause headaches, migraines, stomach upsets and have a negative depressant effect on the brain.
