Would a bad speed or oxygen sensor or a transmission problem cause a car to jump forward violently and a thump be heard just before 2 RPMs?

Answersame problem I have.I think throtle position sensor and speed sensor can cause thise problem.try first any adjustment on throtle sensor then speed sensor. may be both wear out.A faulty ABS speed sensor can give you those symptoms. Just to eliminate the possibility, remove the ABS fuse and take it for a test drive. If the problem goes away you have found the problem.
