I had that issue with my 02 cougar xr. It started and drove fine but at stop signs or stop lights it would die. There are a couple of ways to fix this. I replaced my IAC valve or idle air control valve and it idled better but after a while it would still stall in the long run, so there's a possibility. Before replacing it take it off and check for cracks and gunk build up. The next step is i checked for any leaks in vacuum hoses. The problem i was having was that my TPS (throttle positioning sensor) had fallen out of my intake system. I hope this helps.
Check for a major vacuum leak.
The idle is set too low or there is an electrical problem
engine idleing to slow turn up your idle to 1500 rpm at idle drive safe
the choke could be sticking causing the car the flood
if you do have gas in the car then it could be the idle control valve. it stops the engine from stalling when the car is stationary
When the ac is running the idle should be raised to compensate for the extra load. If the idle isn't rising then the car will cut off.
Sounds like the power brake booster is bad.
Do you remember last time car was tuned up?
Look for a vacuum blockage or a vacuum leak.
IF IT IS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION CAR, THEN IT SOUNDS AS IF YOUR CLUTCH IS BAD/WORN OUT.
replace the Air Idle Control Valve for starters
700 to 750 rpm is normal. if the engine stalls, you may have to replace the IAC (Idle Air Control) Motor. they get stuck.
