Tradescantia zebrina, formerly known as Zebrina pendulosa and commonly known as the Wandering Jew plant, is a spiderwort native to Mexico. I don't believe its buds would be edible as I know that skin irritation can result from repeated contact with or prolonged handling of the plant - particularly from the clear, watery sap it emits. I would conclude, then, that internal mucous membranes might also be similarly affected by consuming any part of the plant. ~ Madeline, NY, NJ and Florida dog trainer
