It depends what the CT scan is for. If it is for a colonoscopy, you shouldn't have eaten for 24 hours. If it is a pre-surgery scan you shouldn't have eaten for 24 hours. If it is for anything in the abdomen probly a good idea not to, they may make you drink contrast material and contents in your stomach could cause the radiologist reading the films to miss something (it happens). Lung, brain, extremity scans...chow down.
A head scan looks primarily at the brain and a sinus scan looks only at the sinuses in the face region.
should you eat before having a ct scan of the chest and abdomen
Because it could pick up the food in your system on the ct scan
CT head scan
an acute bleed on ct appears hyperdense, hence the use of ct when a head bleed is suspected.
I had a low density undetermed spot by my lower right ear shown on a ct scan of the sinus. What are they looking for to do a MRI of the head.
Can I smoke before ct scan
We usually ask you not eat 4 to 8 hours prior to getting a CT scan of anything in the abdominal or pelvic area. (the time difference depends on protocol of your doctor and the place doing the CT scan) There are exceptions and depends on what the doctor wants to see. You may always call the place doing your CT and talk to the CT technologist. (the person who answers the phone may not know)
There are no generally contraindicated medications after a contrast enhanced Ct Scan.
Generally the head goes in first. This is the default setting on most CT scanners.
