Of course, you always have that option (especially in an emergency). However, it would be extremely unwise to do so. It is safest to stop the generator's engine and let it cool before you fill it with fuel. If you have a separate fuel tank at a safe distance from the engine, then you should not have any problems if you take appropriate safety precautions.

How to heat your home with a Bio-Diesel generator?

Are you running into higher utility bills while trying to heat your home? Did you know that you could use a bio-diesel generator in place of the regular one and save a lot of money and energy? Here is a step-by-step guide on how to heat you home using a bio-diesel generator. Step 1 The first step is for you to contact a good electrician and determine the amount of energy that your house consumes, with all the appliances running, in a day. The consumption required would be calculated by the electrician based on the size of your house, your lifestyle and the number of electrical appliances that are being used. Step 2 Search for a diesel generator in your locality and purchase it. You can easily find one at a store that sells lawn mowers. Step 3 Once you have purchased the diesel generator, your electrician can install it following the instructions supplied by the generator manufacturer. Step 4 Once the installation is complete, fill up the generator’s tank with diesel. Turn on all the appliances that you will be using regularly in your house and start running the generator. Step 5 When you complete the above step, you will be in a comfortable position, as you will know that all your home appliances are working properly when used with a diesel generator. It’s now time to convert your diesel generator to run on bio-diesel. Even as the generator is running on diesel, fill up the tank by slowly pouring bio-diesel. Step 6 You can easily find out the difference when your generator starts to function entirely on bio-diesel. The hum that the generator produces while running on normal diesel will be a bit louder while the hum will be smoother and quieter when running on bio-diesel. Another way to find this out is by smelling the exhaust. When the generator runs on bio-diesel you will be able smell sweetness. Step 7 Periodically monitor and maintain your generator properly. When your family size increases you must also replace your existing generator with a more powerful one. You will be able to save more by turning off your bio-diesel generator whenever your house is empty. You will actually get addicted to bio-diesel when you start receiving lower utility bills.

How is a submarine powered?

Modern submarines are powered by a nuclear reactor. Others are powered by diesel engines while they are on the surface and batteries while they are submerged. The older ones that were powered by diesel and batteries had their limitations. While they were on the surface running on diesel engines they left a trail of exhaust smoke which gave away their position. When they were submerged and running on batteries they could only last so long and then they had to come to the surface, run the diesel engines and recharge the batteries. The submarines that are run by nuclear power do not have to resurface for a very, very long time.

Can you fill your generator with gas while the engines running?

It's not advisable. An accidental gas spillage onto the generator body while filling could start a fire and cause serious injury or property damage. Best to wait for the generator to cool down after stopping, then fill.

What were submarines powered with in 1944?

They were powered by diesel engines and batteries. The batteries were for underwater use and the diesels propelled the sub and charged the batteries while running on the surface.

Diesel Generator And How It Works?

A diesel generator is basically a device that uses diesel fuel that produces electricity. In essence this type of generator can be seen as two separate devices within one unit that produces power. The diesel engine uses the fuel which powers the motor that causes the motion for the generator. Then the motion that is created is turned into electricity with the use of electromagnets. The engine and the generator which contains the electromagnets within it, is connected with a crankshaft which in turns aids in the transfer of motion to the generator. The small engine of the diesel generator operates like other small similar engines. And any fuels can be used to operate the small engines. Diesel is preferred because of its ability to burn and not explode like other fuels in that category. To start the diesel generator, the gas tank has to be filled, then the engine can be started either by using a key or by an automatic starter. Pull start engines are quite common on diesel generators as well. To start a pull start engine, just give a quick tug on the cord and the engine will turn over and fire right up. To keep the engine at a good speed, their is a throttle or governor. This helps maintain the power output and also prevents damage from occurring within the components of the engine from operating at a high speed. As the diesel engine is started and the inner workings turn the crankshaft that is connected to the generator, this spawns the motion within the chamber that contains the electromagnets. The constant high speed motion produces an electric current which is ready to be used by anything plugged into the generator. The governor switch allows for the engine to rev at various points while electricity is being used. This prevents the diesel generator from dropping suddenly while tools or other various items are plugged in and are being used.

What is the difference in how a normal car engine and a diesel car engine in how they work?

diesel engines compress the fuel mixture much more than gasoline engines, diesel engines are always fuel injected while gasoline engines have the option of being carbureted, diesel engines usually cost more, diesels produce more power than a comparable gasoline engine, diesel engines have no distributor or spark system, and instead use glow plugs to ignite fuel, and diesel engines can be converted to run on vegetable oil with few modifications.

Why CI engines are used in trucks and other heavy vehicles but not why SI engine?

Compression ignition (CI) engines use diesel is as the fuel, while spark ignition (SI) engines use petrol. SI engines are lightweight and achieve high speeds while diesel CI engines although heavier and slower engines, are more robust and have a higher thermal efficiency. Their robust build (and fewer parts) makes diesel CI engines ideal for heavy machinery.

How much does a silent diesel generator usually cost to buy?

A silent diesel generator usually costs around $1300.00. The highest price for one can be found at $5809.06, while the lowest can be found for $1378.00.

What does Incoming and running generators are in same phase while paralleling two generators mean?

When two generators are to be run in parallel, one generator is first started and some load is given. Then second generator is brought in parallel with the running generator (subject few conditions, like voltage, frequency, phase angle). First generator which is running is known as running generator, the second generator which gets connected is known as incoming generator

How much energy can a diesel generator produce?

The amount of energy a diesel generator set can produce depends on its size and capacity. Typically, diesel generator sets range from small, portable units generating a few kilowatts (kW) to large industrial generator sets producing several megawatts (MW) of electrical power. A small diesel generator set may produce between 5-20 kW, while larger industrial models can generate anywhere from 500 kW to several MW.

Why are submarines hybrids?

All submarines have at least 2 methods of propulsion; with nuclear power, steam generated moves the turbines/main engines, and also makes electricity for battery storage in case of main propulsion failure (electric motor propulsion). A backup Diesel-Generator is also aboard for making electricity if the reactor is down. Diesel-Electric boats run on electric motors (battery powered) submerged, and on their diesel engines while surfaced.

Is it possible to fit a supercharger and a turbocharger on the same engine?

Yes, this was done on diesel engines for a while.
