It depends on the airline, but usually you have to be 14 or older. However just incase bring a letter giving parental concent. They will know your age from your passport. Although 16 should be fine.

Ask the airline. A friend of mine did a over seas flight with one connection when he was 14 a few years ago. That was with Lufthansa.

Yes, although bear in mind you won't get any unaccompanied minors benefits etc., you are treated as an adult, therefore you do everything yourself.

They can. Depending on a particular airline's policies, you could even travel alone as young as 5 years old, provided that a parent or guardian accompanies that passenger to the gate.
