It could be spread that way only if you touch around your urethra after coming in contact with their germs. You can't get a UTI just by being exposed to the germs. The germs would have to be introduced to the "correct" area of the body. They are generally not absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream. So if you don't touch your urinary or genital area even if you have the germs on your hands, you won't get it down there. You might give yourself something else, like a sinus infection or warts on your hands or something.
